Summary
This is an oral history interview with Allen Bettis conducted as part of the Houston History Project. Allen Bettis is an archaeologist working for the Texas Department of Transportation. Whenever major projects encounter archeological sites, he is placed in the position of stopping the project in the effort establish the value of the site. In addition he has learned to make stone tools and weapons equal to the best native tool maker. His insights into tool making technology have given him a tool to evaluate and historically place sites he investigates.  The interview looks at the roots of his interest in lithics, the present work, his finds and the future in Texas for archaeology. Interviewer: Reed Amadon.
