Gene McDavid discusses his career at the Houston Chronicle, starting as a linotype operator, moving to Assistant Production Director and acting Production Director, and ultimately rising to General Manager and later President of the Houston Chronicle. He also talks about introducing new technology in newspaper production, the sale of the Chronicle to the Hearst Corporation in the 1980s, and his appointment to the UH Board of Regents by then-governor George W. Bush.
